Let’s go back in time: Approximately 74 years ago to be specific. It is World War II, you are unlucky enough to be a Jew and Hitler doesn’t like you so he and Nazi Germany wants you dead, or at bare minimum break your will for reasons. This is what happened to the protagonist Max and his family. Max is going to be shipped to a concentration camp and he and his sister Zena manage to take a risk and escape the ghetto the Nazi trapped them in. They go through an adventure which ultimately leads to them wanting to leave the current world they live in behind.
I enjoyed this book as it is meant to give the reader a perspective of how cruel war is. The only problem I had with the book is how there is too much filler at certain moments in the story which is off putting. The ending also feels weird mainly because this is supposed to be a children’s book, other than that this book is definitely perfect for people who enjoy History as a subject at school.
This book is a must read for younger audiences as it is short and being a graphic novel, it really gives a perspective to the audience that war is cruel. This is definitely a book that is meant to be for audiences 7-14 years old. Albeit like what I said above due to the weird ending it feels rather quick and rushed. Other than that, there is no reason why this book should not be picked up by both kids and teens alike.
