“Grown” is the gut-wrenching story of Enchanted Jones, a young singer-songwriter chasing her musical dreams. When famous R&B singer Korey Fields approaches her at an audition, Enchanted is wrapped into the nightmare hidden behind Korey’s shiny appearance.  Enchanted becomes lost in her own life–and the control that Korey has over her–when one day she wakes up to find his blood on her hands. While coping with the horrible things that Korey made her do, and how he made her feel, Enchanted has to navigate through murder accusations and lawsuits. But maybe her trauma is a powerful tool she can use to help other girls like her; maybe more powerful, in fact, than the control men like Korey have over those girls.

“Grown” had me hooked the whole time, there was not a time in this book that I did not enjoy. Some of the scenes were a little graphic, but I think that added to the message of this book. My favorite character in this book was Enchanted herself. The book empowered me to want to fight for these girls, and I think that is a true honor to Tiffany D. Jackson.

I would recommend this book to anyone who thinks they are ready for it. This book has some serious content that is not for the lighthearted. Make sure to check content warnings and other reviews before picking this book up! When I got this book, I found it on the murder mysteries table, however I think that this book was less a murder mystery and more a contemporary fiction. In conclusion, this book is amazing and empowering, but not for the lighthearted.
